“I don’t share to teach or convince others; I share to make those who feel the same as me feel less alone.”

“I don’t share to teach or convince others; I share to make those who feel the same as me feel less alone.”

I read this quote somewhere and wrote it on the front cover of my journal. It was a message from my Oversoul as to part of my mission, my purpose in this life.

I’ve always been seen as a leader of sorts. I can look back at my report cards from elementary school and the notes from the teachers would include things like “Laura is a natural born leader.” These days, that could be seen as “bossy”. My favorite t-shirt, a gift from my sister-in-law, April, says “I’m not bossy; I’m aggressively helpful.” I wear it with pride! Looking back, I can see that it wasn’t necessarily that I was a “leader”, it was that I had the gift of being able to see a way forward with the least amount of effort and a way to bring people together in a cooperative manner to reach an end goal.

This “gift” of foresight has served me well in my life. I have been able to see several steps ahead and plan accordingly, which has saved me and those around me from unnecessary pain and chaos. I could see the potentials, probabilities, and which direction a choice would take me or others.  Call it intuition or being psychic, it was as natural as being able to see what’s right in front of you. I thought everyone had the same ability (and they do) but I would be shocked when I watched people walk right in front of the proverbial BUS and get run over when all they had to do was get the hell out of the way!

While watching this play out in the lives of so many around me, I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t a lack of intelligence or education, it was a lack of something more inherent. All I could figure was the person lacked the connection to their own intuition, but WHY? What was blocking that connection? I can’t be the only one who has this inner knowing.

The old adage of “you can give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. You teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” was whispered to me more than once and I began to understand that my mission in this life was to help people remember this innate connection so that they could be their own psychic, further empowering them to be in total control of their own lives (and catch their own fish).

The idea of “teaching” something to someone has always felt invasive to me; it implies that someone NEEDS to be taught something but, in my opinion, a person just needs a reminder. How many times have you read something and had the reaction of “oh yeah…that’s it!”? That’s recognition, not a “learning” of new information.

Now, there’s power in exposing someone to a new perspective; as a nurse, it was my job to help people understand how their bodies worked and how disease processes affected their health and most importantly what they could do about it.

I provided an expanded perspective on something they had basic rudimentary knowledge of their bodies and empowered them, with this broader perspective, to take control of their health. Most patients are just talked AT, lectured with information that doesn’t land and it further dis-empowers them.

Anyone can look at the state of health in the world and see very clearly that we are in a time of unlimited information at everyone’s fingertips yet we are the unhealthiest population EVER! WHY?

In my humble opinion, society, as a whole, has given up their sovereignty. What does that mean? Well, the definition from Wikipedia is as follows:

Self-ownership is the concept of property in one's own body, often expressed as the moral or natural right of a person to have bodily integrity meaning the exclusive right to control one's own body including one's life, where 'control' means exerting any physical interference and 'exclusive' means having the right to install and enforce a ban on other people doing this.

Let’s unpack this, shall we? I do feel that the above definition captures this concept pretty accurately.

What does “self-ownership” mean to you?

Do you feel that you have the ability to control your own body, your circumstances, your life?

If you don’t, have you asked yourself why?

Or do you even feel that you CAN?

We can go down the rabbit hole with this topic – birth certificates, social security numbers, mandated government sponsored education, forced compliance, work until you die… We, as a society, has been conditioned to give up our “self-ownership” to the system, so it’s no wonder that we may feel that we have no power.

But what if I told you that the fact that you are a spark of God, a child of ALL THAT IS, a human being on this planet, at this time, that you have ABSOLUTE power over your life? That YOU have the innate gifts and abilities to see several steps ahead and open yourself to receive guidance to better your life?

I know some of you are saying “Yeah, sure but my life is a shit show so I guess it doesn’t apply to me.” WRONG!

It all begins with acceptance of responsibility for your choices. Those of us who have raised children know all to well what it’s like to have a child who refuses to accept responsibility for their actions, blames others for what they do or don’t do and if this behavior is not overcome, the child is set up for major issues in life. I have one such child and let me tell you, it’s not going well for them.

Once we accept that we and we alone are responsible for what we think, act and DO, then we can move onto the next step, which is to understand what motivates our decisions. Are we seeking acceptance from others? Do we care more about what others think of us than we think of ourselves? Are we acting in integrity? Do we even have standards that we live by? Where did we pick up these “standards” and how are they affecting our lives?

It does require a deep desire to look at all of this and it can be painful and embarrassing. The Ego will do everything it can to distract you - “LOOK OVER HERE”! For some, the cycle of “shame and blame” once unveiled, these truths can paralyze us from moving forward, keeping us in a torrent of negativity. It doesn’t have to be that way – just breathe and let it move through you and climb up the ladder to the next step – just above the clouds where the sky is blue and the air is clear.

But this is when it can feel scary to someone who’s never really considered what it would feel like to have ultimate control (or responsibility) in their lives. I like to compare it to people who have served in the military – they are broken down in boot camp, given the clothes and supplies they need and are told when to wake up, when to eat and when to go to bed. My husband likes to quote what his boot camp instructor said to the newly enlisted - “If we wanted you to have a wife, we would have issued you one.”

There are those who really like this way of life – it allows them to not have to take any responsibility for their lives – they do what they’re told. I watched as my father retired from the military after almost 30 years and had no idea what he was supposed to do once he was responsible for his own life and the life of his family. How many of us live this way? Needing to be told what to do, when to do it and how to do it?

Start with choosing ONE thing in your life – a habit that no longer works for you, a dysfunctional relationship that you can do without, a closet that’s overflowing with shit you don’t need. Feel the freedom from acting on it and the resulting benefit you feel after completion. Congratulations! You’re well on your way to self-ownership.

Will you see an immediate improvement in your life? Maybe – depends on how big the problem you chose played in your life’s circumstances.

I’ve found that sometimes it’s subtle – a shift in energy in your surroundings when you’ve de-cluttered your space. Sometimes it’s big when you remove people from your life that either cause you to feel dis-empowered or are living out of integrity. But I can guarantee that you WILL experience positive changes and it’s up to you to be able to discern the impact on your life.

WOW! This blog post certainly went off on a tangent – “SQUIRREL!” That’s how Spirit works. We start with an idea and if we just allow things to flow, you just never know where it will end up. I know that this writing will be impactful for those it was meant for. That’s how this works.

I am here, ever present, to walk with you on your journey.

I don’t share to teach or convince others; I share to make those who feel the same as me feel less alone.”
